This week, Norwegian Offshore Wind – the largest representative offshore wind body in Norway, will travel to Cornwall to gain a better understanding of the region’s Floating Offshore Wind (FLOW) opportunities.
Cornwall Trade and Investment, in partnership with Celtic Sea Power, will host the Norwegian contingent, who will meet with a number of organisations in Cornwall involved in the development of FLOW.
Nicola Lloyd, Director of Cornwall Trade and Investment, comments:
“We met the offshore wind cluster at Wind Energy Hamburg last year and have kept in regular communication.
We are delighted that Norway’s industry are so keen to gain a better understanding of Cornwall’s FLOW capabilities This visit will offer Cornwall learning and investment opportunities, and a collaborative partnership across nations.”
It’s hoped this will be the first of many visits, the initial study trip leading to larger groups later in the year visiting to focus on specific aspects of Cornwall’s development of FLOW technology, infrastructure and supporting services.
Matt Hodson, COO at Celtic Sea Power said:
“Cornwall is at the forefront of FLOW development and has high capability to meet the needs of this burgeoning industry. Norway has an extremely impressive track record in offshore development and there is clear opportunity for us to work together.
Norwegian Offshore Wind represents hundreds of supply chain companies and developers. We are delighted that we can continue to develop our relationship, and are confident that this visit will lead to valuable partnerships with the potential to maximise opportunities that a multi-billion pound global industry represents. This can only benefit Cornwall in the longer term.”
During the two-day visit, Norwegian Offshore Wind will be introduced to representatives from Cornwall’s renewables sector, including Cornwall Marine Network, Feritech Global, Falmouth Docks, and Hayle Marine Renewables Business Park.
Nicola adds:
“Cornwall’s marine and renewable energy companies have made great international connections in recent years, and this visit is expected to further boost overseas sales and partnerships with Norway”.
“This visit is about working out what we have and what Norway has, where the synergies are, and how the two countries could help each other. For Cornwall, it’s an exciting step in our FLOW journey.”
