Cornwall is home to an incredible business community. There’s something about the region and its spirit that makes business leaders far more interested in collaborating than competing.
When you arrive in a new location, it’s good to know people – and no matter which industry you’re in, you’ll find a friendly, connected and valuable group to become part of. Here’s a look at a few of the communities that have had a huge impact on Cornwall’s recent growth and success.
Software Cornwall
Software Cornwall is the hub of Cornwall’s growing tech industry. Unlike most industry networking groups, Software Cornwall puts a huge focus on education and the development of skills needed to sustain the growth of Cornwall’s tech sector. With frequent events for local tech businesses, students, and those interested in breaking into the tech sector, this is a collaborative network with a major difference. The group has grown significantly alongside Cornwall’s tech sector, connecting businesses and helping tech companies work together to achieve common, mutually-beneficial goals – in addition to their own personal growth ambitions.
The group has expanded to offer:
Acting as a‘one stop shop’ for businesses and individuals in the industry that want to achieve more, Software Cornwall has played an instrumental role in helping Cornwall become the UK’s third fastest growing tech cluster.

Cornwall Federation of Small Businesses
Cornwall is home to a huge number of small businesses and start-ups, and the Cornwall Federation of Small Businesses gives them a place to come together, connect and gain valuable knowledge that helps them grow. The FSB focuses on hosting informative events, naturally targeted at helping solve many of the biggest challenges faced by small businesses. Those events function as both educational sessions, and changes for attendees to network.
Kernow DAT
Kernow DAT (Dev,Art and Tech) hosts events for Cornwall’s digital community, with a focus on sharing and exploring cutting edge technology and encouraging open and productive conversations between companies, entrepreneurs and those with strong digital skills within Cornwall.
In the organisation’s own words, “with the world more interconnected than ever, it’s important to meet up and connect in the real world to celebrate our passion for all things digital. Events like this encourage cross pollination of ideas between related industries and like-minded individuals.” Kernow DAT was originally created to celebrate and unite the unique spread of digital disciplines found across Cornwall – building them into a single connected community.
Unlocking Potential: Future Focus events
Unlocking Potential does a huge amount of work across the Cornish business community –providing everything from support and advice for startups, to helping companies find amazing local graduate talent.
Its Future Focus events put global business leaders and other inspirational thinkers in front of a local business audience, giving growing businesses a unique opportunity to come together and receive extremely valuable insights. UP also delivers Future Focus lab sessions, where businesses can meet with peers and receive expert guidance, tailored to the challenges they’re facing today –given them both a chance to meet like minded businesses, and go away with a clear action plan for their business.
TEDxTruro
Cornwall’s own independently-organised TED event takes place every year in Truro. One of the most diverse and inspirational events in the region’s calendar, sessions explore topics ranging from space and human consciousness, to building a better society and mental health. While not squarely focussed on business topics, this annual event is always an immense source of inspiration for those with strong ambitions and drive to be the best they can be.
