Cornwall Trade and Investment’s Business Engagement Manager, Abi Rule, caught up with Mike and Gemma Turner, Directors of newly located business – Springer Marketing, to find out their reasons for moving to Cornwall:
Springer Marketing is a Digital Marketing company. Our primary aim is to generate more leads and sales for our clients. We are a full service agency, delivering; SEO, AdWords, Social Media Management, Branding, Marking Strategy and Web Design.
There were a multitude of reasons behind our move to Cornwall. Primarily, it was for the work/lifestyle balance that Cornwall provides. The region has so much to offer in terms of innovation and creativity as well as really strong links to the rest of the UK (with the likes of Cornwall Airport Newquay providing a great transport link).
There are many advantages for our business being based in Cornwall. Cornwall has been an enabler for business growth and has given us access to new markets and the opportunity to scale.
One huge bonus is the broadband. Our broadband is faster in Cornwall than it was in St Albans. We’ve found that people like to use local, they are loyal and aligned, and the networking is fantastic.
Cornwall allows you to focus. We’ve found the lifestyle to be so much healthier, not only for your physical health but also for your mental health. Mentally, we are so much happier in Cornwall.
It’s also always been Mike’s lifelong dream to live in Cornwall and we both view it as an amazing and beautiful place. We’ve found it to be very friendly and accepting.
On a personal level – getting used to being so far away has been difficult, but in terms of work and opportunities we haven’t seen any negatives. I feel we’re more supported here than we ever have been elsewhere. There’s a great network of support.
Growth is definitely on the cards; we’re seeing an increase in clients and therefore need to grow. At the moment we’re a team of two, however our aim is to have an office and team in place by the end of 2018.
Finally, how would you describe Cornwall’s business community in 3 words:
Friendly. Innovative. Community.
